Hello I'm new here and just found this great UBB.This may sound like a silly question, because I would prefer using Rational or another modeling tool for UML, but until we get to that, I need to create some UML diagrams in what I have which is Powerpoint.I was hoping that there was a custom autoshape library out there for UML shapes in powerpoint. Everytime I try to my search for one, I get directed to links that have to do with Visio.I'm really looking for a few basic shapes (like a class shape and actor). I can create a graphic and insert them into powerpoint, but there's no way to attach a label, or write into them.Has anyone here heard of such a library?Thanks,John Brown. I agree.It's not as much modeling as it is selling my boss on the idea of using UML for moving a legacy system to for a project. I only wanted to make a use case survey, some use cases, and a conceptual class diagram mostly for show.

I just hate to 'similate' the look of classes in powerpoint, and thats the easiest forum I have now to present it to the people here. I did find the link to MetaMill here, which is not bad to use until I can get them to bring me a copy of Rose 2000e. Maybe I can make my models with MetaMill and cut an paste into powerpoint. I'll try it and see how it looks. I just find it hard to believe that powerpoint does not have a library of these shapes for presentations with as many UML presentations I see out on the internet.Powerpoint is definately not a modeling tool.

I would never even think of doing elaboration and requirements for a project using Powerpoint. But I did think that I could do a better sell (or explanation) of my thoughts on how to approach this project if the drawings had an actual example of the system that we are looking to upgrade.I'm kind of trying to educate a few factions of poeple and developers that have always worked in procedural and modular programming and design in C.

The 1st goal that we had was to evaluate Application servers for the upgrade, but the thought was more like 'porting' the current procedural application to J2EE. As we spend a few weeks doing proof of concepts with IBM and BEA, some management got the idea that this was not the right way to go, and that the effort might be larger.I'm trying to convince them that to convert the application to and J2EE will probably take the same amount of time and produce the least benefit when completed. I think that the project will slip and more problems will occur during the end of the project, and we still will have a system with similar (or perhaps even new) flaws and little to no business requirement documentation to help.A few more examples on how UML (particularly use cases and conceptual class diagrams) will work for this project will get me the commitment to go this route. Then getting a proper OOA/OOD tool such as Rational Rose will be no problem.Unfortunately, I don't have the money personally to get my own copy of such a tool (being a consultant here). Righ now I'm having a hard time getting a copy of Visual Basic (the current client app) to help me learn the current system.Thanks for your help, but I'm getting the feeling that hat I'm looking for may not actually exist for the exact reasons you state in this.Sincerely,John.
